Fort Pierce Police Department Awarded Project Safe Neighborhood Grant

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) received a Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) award from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to be used to provide funding to entities to reduce violent crime within their jurisdiction. FDLE is passing through a portion of this funding as sub-awards to DOJ's U.S. Attorney's Offices (USAO) Districts. The City of Fort Pierce is within the Southeastern U.S. Attorney's Office District.

The PSN program is designed to create and foster safer neighborhoods by funding efforts to address criminal gangs, and felony possession and use of firearms. The success of the program requires coordination, cooperation, and partnership between state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies.

The US Attorney's Office (USAO) Southern District of Florida has identified the following Targeted Enforcement Areas (TEAs) for the Federal Fiscal Year 2019 funding to reduce short-term and long-term rates of homicide and other serious violent crimes, including aggravated assaults, robberies, and firearm
 offenses:

 . City of Lake Worth;
 . City of Pompano Beach;
 . City of Miami Gardens;
 . City of Miami;
 . South-end of Miami-Dade County; and
 . City of Fort Pierce

The City of Fort Pierce (through Anita Cocoves, Grant Writer for the Fort Pierce Police Department) submitted an application requesting grant funds totaling $366,000.00 for the purchase of needed law enforcement technological equipment and overtime for selected Officers and Support Staff. After a competitive review, the Fort Pierce Police Department was awarded $70,000 that will be utilized in our crime reduction efforts.
