Overview
The Communitywide Council responsibilities include the review of the city's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program Annual Action Plan, economic development business loan applications, non-profit organizations' request for funding applications, and proposed projects for recommendations to staff and City Commission.
Additionally, staff proposes to use the council to review citizen complaints with issues surrounding the various city housing programs and assist staff in dealing effectively with individual concerns. Further, as the city addresses brownfield issues, the council will provide public review and input on cleanup plans for a variety of projects. The Communitywide Council's areas of interest have been enlarged under the guidance of the new Department of Urban Redevelopment and the department welcomes comments and suggestions from the public, through the Communitywide Council.
Membership Structure
The Communitywide Council consists of 7 members, appointed by the City Commission. Four persons shall be appointed on odd-numbered years, and shall be recommended by staff, consisting of 2 persons of low and moderate income from the CDBG target area and 2 persons from the community-at-large. Three persons shall be recommended by staff but appointed by the commission on even numbered years, and will be residents of federally assisted housing, representatives of community organizations or otherwise eligible for participation in the CDBG program.
This structure will insure continued involvement of citizens and citizen organizations throughout all of the Department of Urban Redevelopment's programs. All members shall be appointed to serve a 2 year term. No member shall serve more than 2 consecutive terms.
Special Meetings
Meetings shall be held at least 6 times each fiscal year. Special meetings for specific subjects may be called in addition to the regular monthly meetings. Please contact the Fort Pierce Department of Urban Redevelopment for more information at 772-467-3169.
